"Your logo + website look good. Why rebrand?"
This question has been asked, asked again, dismissed + revisited a number of times by us + others in our life. And it's a good question. Essentially, why fix something that isn't broken?
The answer... I really wanted to!
In the early parts of 2021, we knew we wanted to enact this nugget of an idea we'd had for a while to offer an advice and design service to the world, at a fraction of the cost of traditional professions. Not knowing whether people would find value in our idea or how popular it would be, I created a logo on Canva and a website to match, all for free. And had to teach myself how to go about it.
Learning a new skill set has been rewarding, but I knew that whatever I did come up with would have limitations and perhaps not be exactly what I envisioned in my head. We're our own worst critics after all!
Fast forward almost 18 months and we have served over 300 clients around Australia, New Zealand and the US via our virtual design packages. The gap that we saw in the market for affordable design advice definitely existed. And we're really proud to have entered into that gap the successful 6 figure, part-time business that we have today, with our clients at the centre.
The Reno Life continues to grow and evolve, and I felt like I wanted our branding to grow and evolve with it.
So because we pride ourselves on being able to present a professional, easy-to-use service to clients, we wanted to make sure that our website reflected this.
Professional and approachable.
Functional and aesthetic.
Reliable and trusted.
Our new logo is reflective of a floor plan - with the breaks in the lines - and a speech bubble as a nod to the advice + conversations we have. Both vital elements of our business. Affordable design advice. The influx of sage and camel colours is new and an injection of me. Especially sage, Jesse and I have a running joke about the amount of green that sneaks its way into our home!
The above elements that you'll see scattered around our branding were also well thought out and have specific meaning:
The Lightbulb is reflective of fresh ideas, problem solving + creative thinking - as well as a more literal nod to an element of the home in the lighting of each room. It also speaks to shedding light on solutions and enabling our clients to forget frustration and stress with a clear plan forward.
The Portrait is indicative of our family centred business. Both our own, and helping our clients - with all sorts of family make ups - plan for the future with a home that suits them and their family's needs.
The Measuring Tape is a literal 'tool of the trade'. A vital element of our process and central to our core value of function first. Pretty design is alluring, but if it doesn't function well, it fails.
The Building - whether it be a home, investment property, AirBNB - these are the spaces that we live our lives in.
The Value Box is reflective of the way you can save money and add value by working with us. By avoiding traditional design professions, by having a clear plan that avoids costly mistakes, by adding value to your home through a functional floor plan that ticks boxes. It is also a nod to the more literal notion of packing boxes. The Reno Life is synonymous with value adding.
The Mouse is a representation of our digital offering. A service conducted online, no matter where you are, at the core of affordable design for everyone.
In consultation with me, our beautiful graphic designer delivered exactly what I didn't know I wanted. And I felt like a kid in a candy store being able to outsource my first element of our business. A big step for someone who has so far handled every tiny detail solo.
So I hope you have enjoyed learning a little more about our branding - who we are, and what we're passionate about. And I hope you love the new look - we sure do!
Thanks for being on this journey with us.
